January 28, 2012 - Hell Under Construction

Mike Leno L.A. Adventist Forum, January 28, 3:00-6:00 p.m. in the chapel with speaker Mike Leno, senior pastor of Ontario church. Discussion will be on Leno’s graduate research on the origins of belief in hell, which earned him the President’s Award for Outstanding University Graduate Student. Admission free, all welcome.


Charles Scriven Saturday, February 25, 2012. Charles Scriven, PhD, President of Kettering College and Chair, Adventist Forum Board of Directors, will discuss “Darwinism and ‘Parascienceá¾½: A (Non-Fundamentalist) Critique.” Admission free, all welcome.

David LarsonMarch 24, 2012, 3:00-4:30 p.m. The speaker will be David R. Larson, Ph.D., Professor of Religion, School of Religion, Loma Linda University. His topic, “Capitalism and Christianity Today: Friends, or Foes?” All are welcome.

Bonnie DwyerThe next L.A. Forum will be April 21, the third Sabbath, 3:00 p.m. in the chapel. The presenter will be Bonnie Dwyer, editor of Spectrum Magazine, speaking on “Finding Peace in the Midst of the Adventist Cultural Wars.” Please note that April’s potluck has also been changed to this same date, April 21. These changes will only apply to April. 

L.A. Adventist Forum, Sabbath, May 26, 3 p.m., Chapel. Ron Osborn, Bannerman Fellow with the Program in Political Science & International Relations at the University of Southern California, and author of "Anarchy and Apocalypse: Essays of Faith, Violence, and Theodicy." Osborn will speak about "Adventist Apocalypticism: Progressive or Degeneration Research Program." All welcome!

L.A. Adventist Forum, June 23, 3 p.m., in the Chapel. Roy Branson, Ph.D., Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Religion, Director of the Center for Christian Bioethics, Loma Linda University, and former editor of Spectrum. Topic: “Five Great Ideas That Have Renewed the Church Since the 1960s.” All are welcome! 

JeffThe next L.A. Adventist Forum will be July 28. Forum welcomes Jeff Gang, MDiv., Andrews University; DMin., Fuller Theological Seminary; and senior pastor of the Anaheim Seventh-day Adventist Church. Topic, “Are We Still a Movement? Four Directions for 21st Century Adventism.”  
BernardThe next L.A. Forum will be August 25, 3 p.m., welcoming Bernard Brandstater, M.D., Professor of Anesthesiology at Loma Linda and President of Loma Linda Forum. Topic: “Updated Creation Strategies for the Adventist Church.”

ForumThe L. A. Adventist Forum will meet Sabbath, October 27, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at Glendale City Church. The speaker is John Webster, PhD, Professor of Religion and Dean of the new H.M.S.Richards School of Divinity at La Sierra University. His topic: "Considering Salvation: Moving Beyond Our Differences." All are welcome.
